(Back to MAIN CONFERENCE Page)

The AoM/IAoM invites corporate officers and practitioners of management, education, leadership, and information systems to submit abstracts, papers, panels, symposia, cases studies, and innovative presentation formats and demonstration projects for its annual conference. As in previous years, industry representatives have the opportunity to showcase their work and network with colleagues from a broad range of disciplines among a national and international group of presenters and attendees. Practitioner submissions and presentations are solicited that address issues and challenges leaders and managers in the trenches are faced with. A variety of presentation formats is available which are described below.

SESSION FORMATS (back to top)

The formats described below are intended as a guide to the many possible ways practitioners can present their work and make a difference in the companies they manage. Prospective participants are encouraged to explore creative and innovative alternative formats, especially those which invite audience participation and involvement.

PLENARY SESSIONS (back to top)

Plenary leaders whose work address paradigm issues and challenges embedded in MELT, is innovative, creative and breaks from conventional perspectives on management, education, leadership and technology are invited to make groundbreaking contributions to either one of the four domain or present multidisplinary, boundary-spanning research, theory or applications. WANTED: PLENARY LEADERS FROM CORPPORATE AND NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS WITH VISIONS FOR NEW PARADIGMS.

PRACTITIONER FORUM (back to top)

Each practitioner forum is dedicated to a single topic relevant to MELT practitioners.  The chair of the forum introduces the session, three or four presenters take approximately 10-15 minutes each to discuss an applied problem or issue and the audience and the presenters spend the remainder of the session discussing the issue at hand.

BOARDROOM SOLUTIONS (back to top)

These sessions are designed for senior managers, leaders of top management teams, CEOs and corporate and nonprofit directors who are faced with a major organizational problem that requires a creative solution.

DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS (back to top)

In this session format, presenters will showcase and benchmark the best their companies offer in the areas of management, leadership, education and information management.

PANELS AND SYMPOSIA (back to top)

A symposium or panel consists of a series of speakers whose presentations clearly address a particular topic, theme, or issue. Panel discussions and symposia typically include a chairperson or moderator and 3-4 presenters offering their perspectives on a single issue. They should provide opportunity for audience discussion and engagement. Proposals for panel discussions and symposia must include a cover sheet with the names, affiliations and addresses, phone and fax numbers and e-mail addresses of all presenters and a 2-3 page general summary followed by one page abstracts of each individual presentation. Panel and symposia authors may request 60, 90, 120, or 150 minutes of program time. All panelists and symposium participants must register for the conference and be present at the time of the presentation.

WORKSHOPS (back to top)

Workshops are offered either as part of pre-conference activities or as part of the regular program. They are designed to help colleagues learn about a particular method or explore a specific perspective. Workshops vary in length; workshop leaders must request the amount of time (60, 90, 120, or 150 minutes or half and full days) required when submitting the workshop proposal. Workshops should involve audience participation and sharing of practical skills. Workshops that have been popular in the past included how to sharpen business writing skills and how to develop a code of ethics for the employing firm.

TUTORIALS (back to top)

Tutorials are presentations with specific educational objectives. Tutorials may be technically focused (i.e., a tutorial on a particular analytic technique or demonstration of new software), career development focused (i.e., mid-career challenges for managers in transitions), or learning focused (i.e., how to design a provocative blog or prepare persuasive presentations). Proposal for tutorials, 2-4 pages in length, should include an abstract of the tutorial, a description of the specific content to be taught, an outline of the tutorial presentation and a brief description of the presenter's background and expertise in the content area of the tutorial.

SESSION LENGTH (back to top)

Sessions are organized into 90 minute time blocks with three (3) or four(4) presentations per session and include 10 minutes for questions/discussions. Prospective participants with special time requirements should contact Dr. T. J. Mills at aomgt@inter-source.org.  Workshops, symposia and panels vary in length ranging from 60-150 minutes. Chairs of these types of submissions must request the amount of time required with the initial proposal.

NOTE: The AoM/IAoM is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization, which cannot provide compensation for workshop presenters, plenary leaders, reviewers or conference staff.
